Where Retrospect reflected on the first decade of our carreer, we'd like to think THE QUANTUM ENIGMA marks the beginning of a new era, where Epica sounds heavy, modern and without compromises! More than ever, the creation of this album was a group effort and we are extremely proud of the results!

Together with producer Joost van den Broek we recorded this album in the Sandlane Recording Facilities in The Netherlands whereas the mix of the album was done by the renowned Jacob Hansen.

Long time collaborator Stephan Heilemann once again created some stunning artwork to accompany the ideas behind the lyrics. Once you'll be able to lay hands on the album artwork, you'll see that the cover is part of a bigger picture.

The band will return to the stage after almost a year of absence during which they focussed on recording the career-defining The Quantum Enigma. EPICA's first performance will be the album release show on the 30th April in the 013, Tilburg in their home country The Netherlands.

Hydra - Within Temptation

Within Temptation - Hydra

Hydra is a solid enough continuation of Within Temptation’s brand of operatic goth-inspired metal.

What’s surprising is as much as this is a typical Within Temptation album; there is a growth and exploration. The band avoid re-hashing too much of their older material, despite how formulaic the tracks may represent themselves to be. The songs structures are less “hook-y” and focus on a streamlined level of catchiness tying the guest musicians into an integral theme. For the album, it really matters not whether ex-Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones adds a clean male harmony to ‘Dangerous’, Sharon den Adel’s operatic cleans fill the space perfectly – a contrast instead should have been made with Jones’ harsh screams, giving a different vocal shaping and utilizing a capable musician to achieve a more engaging track – in turn, this would have taken Hydra to completely new heights, even the Tarja Turunen (ex-Nightwish) track doesn’t add any extra elements that would promote the guest musicians’ contributions, it’s merely another operatic female vocal section. Sure enough, the Xzibit featured track is an unexpected curve ball, but how much does an emotive female fronted metal band need the ramblings of a rapper to convey its themes? The answer lies in how well the rapped, cursing verse of Xzibit match in with Adel’s hanging lyrical passages. Within Temptation do push on the boundaries of their own music and explore different techniques to add interest to their music, but they don’t exactly need the other artists to drop in on the band’s sixth studio release.

Highlights emerge as the album progresses. Tracks like ‘Tell Me Why’ and ‘Silver Moonlight’ convey some real emotion backed by some of the group’s strongest instrumental efforts to date. Twists and turns engage Sharon’s vocals pushing her above the minimalistic nothingness created by pauses and rests within the instrumental efforts. This is stylistic contrast used to the best effect possible. Not a lot of modern acts know when to simply shut up and allow the center point the limelight. Take the album opener for example: ‘Let Us Burn’ starts the album as you would expect; minor guitar leads and building guitar riffs hugged by both bass and drum kit. The track itself leads a crescendo into the rest of the record. The hook line dominates the chorus lines which create an instantly catchy sing a long theme; it’s not exactly a showcase of brand new song-writing techniques, rather a demonstration that old tricks can still work well - Within Temptation have a great musical sensibility.

For those who weren't exactly chuffed with the band’s other five studio releases, there’s a fair chance that Hydra will not change your mind. As for the band’s 2014 release, Hydra is exactly the Greek translation of its name-sake, showing an reformation of Within Temptation’s previous nuances, matured and shape-shifting into something individual for a band long considered a passable “copy act”. With their debut record long behind them, Within Temptation are destined to grow, one step at a time with a brand of music truly theirs. It’s not going to be spectacular by any means, but it does a whole lot better than average and more importantly gives better life to the group.

Esce il 16 Maggio 2009 prodotto da Verba Manent e distribuito da Edel, “L’amore non ha fine”, il cd postumo di Valentina Giovagnini, la giovane artista scomparsa prematuramente il 2 gennaio scorso che incantò la giuria di Sanremo con il brano “Il passo silenzioso della neve”.

Un talento puro quello di Valentina che ha seguito un percorso musicale unico e originalissimo, ricco di contaminazioni musicali e suggestioni letterarie. In questo lavoro coadiuvata negli arrangiamenti nei testi e nelle musiche dal suo scopritore Davide Pinelli e da Vincenzo Incenzo, l’artista toscana, spaziando dal classico ed elettronico, dal tango al celtico, dal rap alla ballad, ricama dodici brani (più due ghost track) di straordinaria intensità trascinando chi ascolta in un mondo senza tempo carico di poesia ed energia, dove i colori di strumenti senza tempo come la cornamusa o il whistle, si mescolano con ritmiche futuribili e sorprendenti modulazioni vocali, Il brano traino che dà il titolo all’album è accompagnato da un emozionante video inedito, l’ultimo girato da Valentina.

Il cd aiuterà la ‘Associazione no profit Valentina Giovagnini, fondata dalla famiglia, con l’intento di realizzare alcuni progetti di solidarietà sognati dalla giovane artista.

Un video per l'album di Valentina Giovagnini l'amore non ha fine

Pronto un videoclip per il primo singolo dell'album di Valentina Giovagnini

Il lancio del nuovo album di Valentina Giovagnini, "L'amore non ha fine", sarà accompagnato da una campagna promozionale che si avvarrà, tra l'altro, del videoclip del singolo di lancio del disco, ovvero il brano omonimo L'amore non ha fine.

L'aspetto interessante consiste nel fatto che non si tratterà di un video realizzato con montaggi di immagini di repertorio, bensì di un vero e proprio videoclip inedito con Valentina protagonista, girato durante il periodo di realizzazione dell'album.

Ancora nessuna notizia sulla data di uscita ufficiale del cd, anche se sembra sempre più certa per il mese di maggio. Considerando che le nuove uscite discografiche arrivano nei negozi solitamente il venerdì, la data definitva potrebbe cadere l'otto, il quindici, il ventidue o il ventinove Maggio.

L'amore non ha fine il disco postumo di Valentina Giovagnini .
Esce L'amore non ha fine il nuovo lavoro di Valentina Giovagnini, scomparsa prematuramente il 2 gennaio scorso, a conferma di un talento che ha seguito un percorso musicale lontano da logiche commerciali.

Risale a sette anni fa la sua partecipazione a Sanremo giovani con "Il passo silenzioso della neve", che le valse un secondo posto dietro Anna Tatangelo e la pubblicazione della sua originale opera prima "Creatura nuda" dalle atmosfere particolari, ben accolto dal pubblico.

Sembrava il preludio ad un successo duraturo e, invece, la sua carriera ha subito una battuta d'arresto, forse perchè le sue sperimentazioni non venivano assecondate dai discografici. Qualche altro singolo e di lei si erano perse le tracce, almeno per quanto riguarda i circuiti promozionali ufficiali.

Valentina ha continuato il suo lavoro di ricerca e riusciva a fare delle tournèe, forte di una schiera di fans che non l'ha mai abbandonata, e dal vivo riusciva ad esprimere le sue innegabili qualità vocali e interpretative, soprattutto nella proposta di famose cover rilette alla sua maniera.

In uno degli ultimi concerti dell'estate scorsa si era pure sfogata delle difficoltà di pubblicare nuovi dischi, annunciando che ne aveva uno già pronto.

Nel mese di Novembre, ad una apparizione tv, presenta un nuovo brano in anteprima: un chiaro segnale che qualcosa si stava muovendo per un suo ritorno in grande stile.

Il tragico incidente stradale non ha messo a tacere questo progetto di Valentina, perchè la sua arte sopravvive, senza fine. Grazie anche a questo disco che la vede alle prese con ben tredici brani e due splendide tracce fantasma. Più presente nella realizzazione compositiva rispetto all'album di esordio, allarga i suoi orizzonti poetici e letterari, coadiuvata negli arrangiamenti e musiche, come al solito, dal suo scopritore Davide Pinelli e da Vincenzo Incenzo.

I temi trattati spaziano dal più antico dei sentimenti ai ricordi, per passare al dolore e ai sogni, il tutto filtrato da una intensità e sensibilità interpretativa, arricchita nel corso degli anni, e che lascia intravvedere sorprendenti nuove sfaccettature come l'apertura ad un canto dagli accenni lirici nel brano che dà il titolo all'intero lavoro: "L'amore non ha fine".

I proventi delle vendite andranno a favore dell'Associazione no profit Valentina Giovagnini, fondata dalla famiglia con l'intento di aiutare chi è in difficoltà e di realizzare questo sogno umanitario di solidarietà voluto dalla giovane artista.
